Body Regions
There are a number of terms designated for various body regions. The following is a list of common terms you will be required to learn for the quiz. Be sure to refer to Image 4 for an illustration of the terms from the list.
- Antecubital — region of the arm in front of the elbow
- Axillary – armpit area
- Brachial — over the brachial artery in the upper arm
- Buccal — of or relating to the cheeks or the mouth
- Carpal - wrist
- Cervical – neck region
- Coxal – hip
- Cubital - elbow
- Digital – fingers
- Dorsal - back
- Femoral — relating to the femur or thigh
- Gluteal – buttocks region
- Inguinal — the groin or area in lower lateral regions of the abdomen
- Lumbar — area over the lumbar spine
- Mammary - breast
- Nasal - nose
- Occipital – back of head region
- Oral – mouth
- Orbital – eye region
- Otic - ear
- Palmar – palm of the hand area
- Patellar – front of knee
- Pectoral – chest area
- Pedal – foot area
- Plantar – sole of foot
- Popliteal — region on the back of the knee
- Sacral – between hips in posterior
- Scapular — of or relating to the area near the shoulder blade (scapula)
- Thorax - chest
- Trunk – torso or thorax and abdomen
- Umbilical — relating to the central area of the abdomen/navel
- Vertebral – spinal column
