Welcome to Unit 8! Unit 8 is devoted to showing you different functions and teaching you how to represent those functions in various forms. It will also teach you how to translate functions on the coordinate plane and identify if functions are odd, even, or neither. One of the best parts about this unit is that you will have the chance to explore some different technology programs to graph some of the functions.

In this first lesson, you are going to study the cube root function. This function looks like an "S" that has been stretched out.

Explore Activity:

Before beginning the content of the lesson, explore the effects of each number using the general form. Use GeoGebra - Translating the Cube Root Function to complete 8.01 Exploring the Cube Root Function.

Note: You will be asked to submit this worksheet during the Task portion of the Lesson.

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Graph cube root functions.
  • Identify the effect on the graph of replacing f(x) + k, f(x + k), kf(x), and f(kx) for specific values of k.
  • Graph functions expressed symbolically and show key features of the graph.
