Types of Correlation

There are several different types of correlation you can have: positive, negative, exponential, or no correlation. All four types are shown below.

The regression line of a scatter plot is the line which is a best fit for the data. This line will not pass through every point on the graph, but will be close to all points.

To predict future outcomes given a set of data, determine the equation of the regression line using software such as GoeGebra or perhaps a graphing calculator if you have access to one.

The independent variable is graphed along the x-axis and the dependent variable is graphed along the y-axis. The dependent variable can be considered an outcome of the independent variable.
