Introduction

Quadratic equations and functions have many different applications in the real world. Some examples include building roller coasters, the path of a rocket, and the height of a baseball. You will have a chance to examine these applications in the last lesson of this unit. For now, take some time to learn the features of quadratic graphs.

Lesson Objectives

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to...

  • Interpret expressions that represent a quantity in terms of its context.
  • Graph functions expressed symbolically, and show key features of the graph, by hand in simple cases and using technology for more complicated cases.

Enduring Understandings

  • The graphs of quadratic functions always form parabolas.

The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study Algebra II and Algebra II with Trig standards: 12, 30, and 30b
