Parabolas are not unfamiliar to us. We previously studied quadratic equations (parabolas) that opened up or down. We will take a closer look at those and look at ones that open left and right. Parabolas are all around us as well. We just don’t notice them as much. The path a basketball travels is parabolic. The satellite dishes that give us our favorite television shows are parabolic. Parabolas are often used for dispensing light such as auditorium lights and street lights.
