We have looked at quadratic functions and graphs, irrational, and imaginary numbers. Now, we need to begin tying them together.

Open the Geogebra - Quadratic Equations and graph y = x2 - 1 and y = x2 + 1 . We are going to fill in the 3.05 table as we go. In the table, set the equation equal to 0. Graph and continue.

Hint to get factors: If solution was x = 4, the factor would be found by subtracting 4 from both sides and getting (x - 4). If solution was x = -4. we would add 4 to both sides and get (x + 4)

Continue graphing and filling in the table for the remaining equations. Submit your completed chart to the 3.05 Solving Quadratic Equations Explore Dropbox.

At the end of this lesson, student will be able to:

  • Use mathematical properties to simplify and solve equations containing complex numbers. ACoS 1,2
  • Solve quadratic equations with complex number solutions. ACoS 3, 4
  • Interpret parts of an expression. ACoS 6a, 6b
  • Create quadratic equation in one variable and use to solve problems. Acos 16
  • Interpret features of a quadratic graph. ACoS 22
