Introduction

This section teaches you to use matrices as another method of solving systems of linear equations. We will learn the definition of matrices, how to get them into proper form, and basic row operations.

Lesson Objectives

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to...

  • Multiply matrices by scalars to produce new matrices.
  • Interpret complicated expressions by viewing one or more of their parts as a single entity.

Essential Questions

  • How do you add, subtract , multiply and find the inverse of a matrix?
  • How can you use a matrix to represent data?

Enduring Understandings

  • Students understand how to solve a variety of functions, and the effects of transformations on functions to describe an object.
  • Students understand how to manipulate matrices.

The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study Algebra II with Statistics standards: 3, 22.
