Here are the steps to prepare a six-column worksheet:
- Enter the heading in the worksheet (Who, What, When).
- Enter the account numbers and account names in the appropriate columns.
- In the trial balance section amount column, enter the balances of ledger accounts as in the general ledger.
- Extend the amount of trial balance sections to the balance sheet and income statement section in the appropriate column.
- Determine the amount of net income or net loss for the accounting period.
- Enter the amount of net income or net loss in the appropriate column of the Income Statement and Balance Sheet sections.
- Add and make a double rule for the four columns of the Income Statement and Balance Sheet sections.
