Steps to Prepare a Six Column Worksheetgraphic of a worksheet.

Here are the steps to prepare a six-column worksheet: 

  1. Enter the heading in the worksheet (Who, What, When). 
  2. Enter the account numbers and account names in the appropriate columns. 
  3. In the trial balance section amount column, enter the balances of ledger accounts as in the general ledger. 
  4. Extend the amount of trial balance sections to the balance sheet and income statement section in the appropriate column. 
  5. Determine the amount of net income or net loss for the accounting period. 
  6. Enter the amount of net income or net loss in the appropriate column of the Income Statement and Balance Sheet sections. 
  7. Add and make a double rule for the four columns of the Income Statement and Balance Sheet sections.
