Regular -AR verbs change like nadar:

• -ar verbs: Those that end in -car, -gar, -zar have spelling changes in the "yo" form only

• -ar stem-changing verbs do not stem-change in the preterit.

Regular -ER and -IR verbs change like comer:

• -er stem-changing verbs do not stem-change in the preterit.

• -er and -ir verbs that have certain double vowels at the end have a spelling change in the third person:

Irregular verbs
One thing to remember about all irregular verbs in the preterit is that none of them have accent marks.
